Pontiac Grand Prix 1972 Description
Offered for sale is this incredible survivor - a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J* Coupe in beautiful Quezal Gold with Inca Gold vinyl interior. This remarkable "barn find" was parked in a garage about 20 years ago, and was recently brought back to life by the nephew of the original owner. After much debate, we believe this car to have been repainted - probably three decades ago - to a very high quality. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on the finish, and though presentable, it would need a repaint to achieve the finish it deserves. The most incredible feature of this car is the interior, which is all original and never restored - to look inside, it could be a 3-4 year old car, and feels like a time machine. The seats, dash, gauges, controls, carpet, headliner, and so forth are in amazing original condition, with everything functioning much the way it came from the factory. The original Delco AM radio is till in place, and everything works perfectly except for the clock. There is no obvious corrosion on any of the sheet metal, and the underneath is nice and solid all around. The factory vinyl top is in very good shape overall, with just a bit of degradation at the right rear corner. The chrome and bright work is very good front to back, and the original 14" wheel covers are still in place. The engine is a 400ci (6.6 liter) Pontiac V8 in excellent running condition, bolted up to a bulletproof TH350 3-speed automatic. It has the original Rochester Qjet 4 bbl., and the original owner's nephew just spent upwards of $3000 putting this car in to proper drivable condition - the fuel system has been completely flushed (including the tank), all fuel hoses replaced, all fluids flushed and changed, the brakes overhauled, the AC overhauled (with new compressor), and much more. It now starts, runs and drives as well as any vintage car out there, and the AC is ice cold. All and all, this Grand Prix is an incredible survivor and a real time machine - with a fresh paint job, it will become show quality, or can be very respectably driven the way it is now. It's a beautiful mixture of "barn find" and "little old lady who drove it to the grocery store." In the photos you can see the clean Florida title, issued in 1987 with 43K (actual miles). Not many years later, the car went in to storage and remained there until very recently. * Interesting note - the "J" in Model J stands for John Z. Delorean, who ran Pontiac from 1965 to 1969, and was influential in the design and development of this very successful Grand Prix model. Phone us at (239) 263-8500 for sales information.
