Chevrolet Corvette 1968 Description
I am selling a 1968 Corvette convertible with hardtop. VIN # 194678S418438. Its a 327, 350 hp L79, 4 speed M21, and a 4.11 posi. OriginaIly the car was Silverstone silver with a black standard interior. I bought the car about ten years ago just as it is. I had just done a body off frame restoration of another '68. I bought it and held onto it thinking I would try and restore it. My thinking has changed and now its time to clean out the garage. The previous owner disassembled the car in 1989 and stripped most of the paint as you can see in the pictures. The engine block matches VIN as does the Muncie four speed 3925660 dated P8D19. The engine block also has VO429 HT stamped on the pad, casting #3914678 dated B 19 8, cylinder heads 3917291 dated C58, intake manifold 3919803 dated D 25 8, alternator 1100693 37A dated 7F29, exhaust manifolds left 3872765, 3872778 right, differential stamping AP 4 8 68. Has five AG 15x7 rally wheels. That is just some of the numbers stuff. I have not inventoried or ran the numbers on everything. Items I know that are incorrect are the distributor it is a 1974 Corvette part # 1112247 and the carburetor part # 7028213 which is a 1968 carb just not a corvette part. The hardtop is a 1969, glass is dated January 1969 and the inside is saddle color. Some items that are for sure missing are the chrome valve covers, air cleaner, and ignition cover. I'm sure there are more missing items, the car has been apart 27 years and moved around. The condition of the engine is unknown. I have not had it apart. I have a receipt from 1990 of the transmission being gone through. The trailing arms seem to have been rebuilt. I had the differential rebuilt two years ago, I was thinking of putting it my other '68 but didn't. The body of the car is very rough. The car does not appear to have wrecked but has other damage shown in the pictures. The birdcage is very rusty and would need to be replaced also shown in some of the pictures. The frame itself is repairable but it has some issues. There is a hole in the front left bumper bracket area. The end cap on the left side appears to have been repaired but the right side end cap needs repaired. The frame is pretty smooth and was primered at one time but has some surface rust in some areas. I have tried to show and explain the vehicle the best that I can. It would be a major undertaking to restore this car but I could not bring myself to part it out because it is numbers matching. The next owner can make that decision. If you have any questions, want me to take additional pictures or want me to look for a specific part to see if its accounted for just let me know. My number is (217)855-7672. Chris. Located in Decatur Illinois 62521. I can help load car and parts.
