*First Year of the Impala Designation

*Top Option V-8 "Tri-Power, Super Turbo Thrust"

1958 marked several important changes for General Motors for it's 50th year of production and the Impala was born as the top-of-the-line Bel Air. This first-year Impala featured unique body styling for one year only and was the launch platform for what became the ubiquitous quad-headlight design cue which still carries on today. There wereoptions for a coupe or convertible, and several powerful engine combinations to choose from - of which, the 348ci "W" with three, two barrel carburetors was the most powerful.

The interior was neatlyappointed with a new horizontal patterning on the seats, a clock set in the dash and, of course, the tissue dispenser underneath. Beyond the aesthetics, a new "X" frame chassis bolstered torsional rigidity by 30%. Power brakes and power steering and a new coil-spring suspension allowed the driver to feel more assured and tamed the rough edges of its lesser predecessor.

The car shown here is a beautifully restored example of a timeless classic. Purchased from the previous owners - a husband and wife met at a car show - the car was driven sparingly with only 6,017 miles registered following the restoration in the 1990's! Since 1995, the car has been cared for in a major collection on the east coast. Data listed for this car appears to match its current configuration - from the Rio Red paint and white top, to the engine withblock and head casting numbers corresponding to 1958. Originality was clearly a top priority by the restorer, right down to the radio and white-wall tires. The original Turboglide was replaced during restoration, and upgraded to the Powerglide (also available in 1958) which was much preferred for better performance, reliability and availability of parts.

The chassis is exceptionally clean and shows no visible evidence of rust or repair (see photos). Paint and chrome, after 20 years, are still in excellent shape with only some small imperfections visible on a couple of panels. Tires have few miles on them but are recommended to be replaced due to age. This car is mechanically excellent and, with exception of clock, most items are functioning normally. This car has just been serviced by Classic Investments and is ready to be enjoyed!
